Suggested Itinerary

Knossos Palace & Heraklion City Tour

08:00 AM – The Palace of Knossos

Be among the first to enter the legendary Labyrinth of King Minos.

Arriving at opening time (08:00 AM) is essential to avoid the large tour groups and midday heat.

  • Parking: Use the official free parking lot located near the main entrance; it fills quickly by 10:00 AM.

  • Tickets: Skip-the-line e-tickets are €20. Purchase them in advance via the official Hellenic Heritage portal.

  • Top Tip: Use a downloadable audio guide on your smartphone for a self-paced 90-minute tour of the Throne Room and the Grand Staircase.

10:30 AM – Drive to Heraklion City Center

A short 15-minute drive north takes you into the capital. Avoid the stress of narrow city streets by heading directly to these recommended lots:

  • Cheapest Option: Port Parking (near the Marina Cafe). It costs roughly €3–€5 for the full day and is a scenic 10-minute walk to the museum.

  • Most Central: Central Parking near Eleftherias Square (underground and cool) or Parking Theseus

11:00 AM – Heraklion Archaeological Museum

This world-class museum houses the original frescoes and treasures found at Knossos, including the iconic Bull-Leaping fresco and the mysterious Phaistos Disc.

  • Entry: €12 (Separate from Knossos ticket as of 2026).

1:30 PM – Cretan Lunch & Old Town Exploration

Walk from the museum into the pedestrian-friendly old town for an authentic lunch.

  • Dining Pick: Peskesi for award-winning traditional farm-to-table Cretan cuisine.

  • For a quick, high-quality local bite, try Cooking with Love near the St. Titus Church.

Afternoon Walk

Visit the Morosini (Lion) Fountain, the Loggia, and walk down to the Koules Fortress guarding the Venetian harbor.
